Nutrition Program Assistant - Alison Coleman
Alison is our Nutrition Program Assistant who assists our members with connecting to community resources that improve their food security and nutritional well-being. Alison spent the last 5 years as a case manager for criminal justice-involved women in Troy and at the Rensselaer County Jail. In the 1980's, she created and directed Prison Families of New York, Inc. which, over 25 years, helped to create a "place at the decision-making table" for those with loved ones in NYS prisons. She continues to handle prison cases involving death and dying, brutality and medical neglect.
She has worked with other special populations including homeless teens, adults with developmental disabilities and hearing-impaired children. She enjoys connecting people with each other and with community resources.
Alison was the long-time president of Albany's Washington Square Neighborhood Association until moving to Guilderland 4 years ago. She spends a lot of time at the YMCA and with her 2 small grandsons, who keep her grounded in the important things (sharks, baking cookies, Good Night Moon).
